A new stain came out this week against the city administration for the management of resources on Telemedellín, the public channel for Medellin residents. Apparently, during 2022, while the entity was in charge of Deninson Mendoza, who left there to campaign politically in Cali, the channel was receiving payments in kind for space, as Caracol Radio revealed this week.

The protagonist of the story is Punto Móvil, a company dedicated to the sale of high-end technological items such as cell phones, headphones, and smart watches. It turns out that in 2022 an agreement was reached with the channel’s directors to broadcast company at different times and programs.

The striking thing about the agreement, which began in March 2022 and continued intermittently until September 21, is that Punto Móvil did not pay the channel in money but in kind: first with some bonuses and then, according to the manager from the company to the station, with cell phones and cutting-edge technological items.

While Punto Móvil assures that the entire commercial relationship was made directly with the then manager of Telemedellín, Deninson Mendoza, he, through the “director of his communications team”, Julián Collazos, responded that he never contacted them.

The company was promoted on Telemedellín in three periods: the first, between May and September 2022. According to the information reported by the channel, in those months, 60 commercials of between 20 and 25 seconds were broadcast for a total value of $23,895. .494. That is, every second on screen cost Punto Móvil about $18,000. In addition, the channel promised to promote the company on Instagram and Facebook.

As a form of payment, the company sponsored Telemedellín Sports Medellín Evoluciona, an athletics race that the channel organized in July of last year and in which some 4,000 people participated. The sponsorship consisted of the delivery of 1,000 vouchers worth $50,000 each to purchase in the store, which were distributed among the runners. That is $50 million in bonuses, more than double what the first round of was worth, a high value, even taking into account the recognition that the business gained with its presence at the event, since the business’s logo appeared on the t-shirt. of the runners.

The document that sealed the commercial alliance states that the business agreed to deliver some products (it does not specify which ones or their value) to “raffle among the staff to promote a good work environment.”

Regarding the payment of the bonuses, Punto Móvil says that “in consideration, we had brand presence in television programs and promos on the Telemedellín signal, as well as elements of the athletic race.”

But what there is no record of in any document, but rather it would have been an only verbal agreement, is that the company also delivered the latest generation iPhone cell phones and other technological accessories, which, according to sources within the channel, were distributed among the managers of that time. Neither the channel nor Mendoza acknowledge that they received the equipment, although the Punto Móvil manager assured that this was the case.

The version that the payment in kind would have easily exceeded the $50 million of the bonuses makes sense, since the commercials returned this year, although there is no record that Punto Móvil has contracted a new schedule or delivered new bonuses.

However, for Telemedellín to broadcast the commercials again, Punto Móvil had to insist several times and even threaten to take legal action against the channel, according to what Joan Steven Hernández, the company’s manager, told Caracol.

According to the channel’s business reports, the spots returned on February 15 of this year and were on air for only a couple of weeks, until March 5. In total there were 27 commercial patterns of 17 seconds, valued at $7,500,000. This time the value per second was reportedly $16,436.

In those two rounds there are already a little more than $40 million, that added to what they could charge for having the company logo on the athletes’ t-shirts and the that was done at the event.

But, again, the channel was still indebted to Punto Móvil. The value of this debt is unknown, since it is not yet known how many or which equipment they handed over to the channel’s directors, nor is it known who has them.

A third batch of spots was broadcast between September 13 and 21. There were 30 pieces, for a very striking value: they only cost $332,412, that is, $11,080 each, a ridiculous price to quote in a medium like Telemedellín.

According to the channel, Punto Móvil paid him with $250,000 headphones that are supposedly currently used in the company.

This, however, would not be the only agreement of this style that the channel made during Mendoza’s management with its clients. Sources within the media warn that something similar would have happened with a luxury shoe store called La Tienda del Burro, which several influencers and presenters of the channel promoted on their social networks in exchange for them giving them their products.

Despite the multiple complaints that have been made known in recent years about the management of Telemedellín, several of which are already in the hands of the State control entities, which have even visited the channel’s headquarters in search of information, and Since the current city administration has complained about the lack of resources to finance social programs and interventions, Telemedellín has been one of the few agencies that has continued to receive billions of additional pesos in its budget.

The last addition was made this week for $1,847 million so that the channel can comply with inter-administrative contracts that it acquired with departments of the same mayor’s office such as the Secretariats of Digital Innovation, Health, Education and Culture, and another with Inder. At the end of last year, the Mayor’s Office had budgeted to transfer $10,000 million to Telemedellín. Since then, the administration has approved additions of $3.696 million in June and another $6,000 in October. It is already more than double what was allocated for the beginning of the year.
