Rafael Nadal has canceled his participation in the ATP Masters1000 tennis tournament in Indian Wells, which starts next week, due to an injury. The organizers announced this on Tuesday. The 36-year-old Spaniard has not played a game since he was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open on January 18. He had suffered an injury in the hip area while taking a long step.
Nadal is thus losing valuable points in the world rankings because he was in the final in Indian Wells in 2022. In 2007, 2009 and 2013 he won the hard court tournament.
