“Unvaccinated players will not be able to participate in tournaments in France, explains the ATP in its press release. Players will need to be fully vaccinated in order to compete, or have a medical certificate exempting them from vaccination for medical reasons. »
ATP asks for “clarifications” from France
According to the ATP, there is nevertheless still a doubt to be removed in the event of a recent Covid infection. “We are seeking clarification from the French Tennis Federation as well as the French government before providing you with an update as soon as new information becomes available. »
But all these steps will only concern a minority in the end. According to English daily The Telegraph, the ATP reported that 98 of the current Top 100 players are fully vaccinated. Its female counterpart, WTA, provided the figure of 99 vaccinated players, without specifying the name of the only refractory. Among men, their identity is quite clear. There is obviously the world number one, Novak Djokovic, whose soap opera of his participation and then his eviction from the Australian Open has greatly agitated the tennis world for many days. The other vaccine-resistant Top 100 player is American Tennys Sandgren, currently ranked 94th in the world. The latter, unlike Djokovic, had decided not to go to Australia.
