Two people died and four others were injured in a car accident in Lier on the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Antwerp prosecutor’s office said on Sunday.
Around 3:00 a.m., a car carrying six people violently hit a roundregarding to end its race on the roof a few meters further on, in the parking lot of a merry-go-round on Aarschotsesteenweg.
Two thirties sitting in the back seat lost their lives, while two other occupants, also in the back, are in critical condition. The driver and his front passenger were seriously injured but their lives were not in danger. The prosecution requested a traffic expert.
The excessive speed seems to have played an important role in the accident but “other factors cannot be excluded”, commented the prosecution.
