Tesla is in turmoil, the most prominent brand currently in electric vehicles must update more than 54,000 electric vehicles. A phenomenon that is becoming recurring for the billionaire of South African origin, Elon Musk.

A real brake for Tesla sent by the American administration

Indeed, on October 17, the American administration, through its office specializing in road safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), requested the recall of more than 54,000 vehicles currently on the road.

The reason for the problem? A manufacturing defect in the brake fluid gauge. The latter is an essential component in the mechanics which allows a vehicle to be stopped. Without it, it is not possible to transmit the braking order to the mechanisms responsible for this action.

A fault in the brake fluid gauge can cause some users, and even Tesla’s on-board system, to to misjudge the quantity of remaining liquid. This would create favorable conditions for serious road accidents.

The vehicles concerned are in addition to recent cars which were manufactured between 2021 and 2023. The design problem would mean that the brake fluid warning light would not be displayed, even in the case of a low quantity.

A problem which would be particularly serious given the number of vehicles currently circulating in European, American and Chinese territories, especially at a time when Tesla is celebrating its 1 million cars delivered in Europe.

The recall, a name that makes Elon Musk bristle

At Tesla, this is unfortunately not the first time that such an event has occurred. And its CEO, Elon Musk, tends not to appreciate being reminded of such events. Indeed, in parallel with effective recalls from mechanics competent to manage Tesla vehicles, the American firm has also set up a remote updating system for its vehicles.

Called Over The Air (OTA), the latter is supposed to make it possible to make fixes to the current fleet of cars remotely. This free update, launched recently, should allow Tesla to make a number of fixes to its vehicles remotely.

This process is not exactly a recall of the vehicle in the garage, confusion may arise as to the very nature of the recall in question. However, that doesn’t take away the fact that this isn’t the first time NHTSA has alerted Tesla to its vehicles.

Memo on the latest recalls carried out by Tesla

On November 7, the NHTSA required the recall of 40,168 Model S and Model X from 2021-2023 (the most recent therefore) which must carry out an update to avoid the potentially serious and dangerous deployment of the passenger airbag unexpectedly. This tended to trigger too easily in the event of a slight impact or if the passenger had not fastened their… seat belt. On November 15 again, this time there are 321,628 Model 3 and Model Y from 2020 to 2023 which are recalled for a bug linked to the rear lights. In very rare cases, the rear lights of vehicles affected by the recall may illuminate intermittently and thus create a greater risk of collision.

If you want to take less risk, you can also turn to the miniature version of the Tesla Cybetruck.
