EV outfitting pioneer Unplugged Performance unveils its inaugural Tesla Model Y Police vehicle, to launch its new fleet division, “UPfit.”

The UPfit police car represents the first public display of UPfit’s contributions toward the next generation of police vehicles and made its world debut this past weekend at the world’s largest Tesla Takeover in San Luis Obispo, CA.

This important presentation further solidifies Unplugged Performance’s commitment to revolutionizing the automotive industry with innovative solutions for electric vehicles.

This new public safety platform joins a line of other high-performance vehicles that Unplugged Performance has innovated for custom use cases.

The needs of police, public safety, military and corporate fleets are changing rapidly. EVs deliver an ideal outcome of taxpayer savings, cleaner air, minimized maintenance downtime, and extreme capability on the job.

Police vehicles require an always-on state to support on-board electronics and maintain readiness to respond at any time.

As a result, 60% of all gasoline burned in internal combustion police vehicles occurs while idling. Strictly idling, a 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Police Car consumes an average of 1633 gallons of fuel per year.

Hybrids are slightly better, with a 2022 Ford Interceptor Hybrid consuming an average of 730 gallons per year. Electric vehicles, on the other hand, can power all electronic devices with minimal power requirements and zero gallons of fuel.

Communications can always be on, climate control can always be on, and the car is always a split second away from being ready to respond. This cost-effective solution garners community support, security, and compliance planning.

Why Tesla?

Tesla is the undisputed leader in the production of high-volume electric vehicles, making them the safest validated platform option.

In recent years, Tesla’s EVs have moved beyond the theoretical stage of being a good idea and have reached critical mass with clear facts supporting low cost of ownership, high uptime, infrastructure solutions, and mass criticism.

Tesla has a proven record of safety and performance that ensures law enforcement can rest easy. While competing fleet vehicle brands currently have a wait period of up to 2 years, Tesla vehicles are available, ready for immediate upgrade.

Tesla has further demonstrated that it is the industry leader by having its proprietary charging port adopted as the new North American Charging Standard (NACS) by competing brands around the world.

“The selection of Tesla as the platform for our Tesla patrol vehicles is a testament to the unparalleled engineering excellence and proven performance they deliver,” said James Hedland, Unplugged Performance Fleet Manager.

“By leveraging Tesla technology, we are proud to offer law enforcement solutions that are not only state-of-the-art, but also reliable and sustainable, enabling officers to serve their communities with confidence.”

This debut is representative of the Tesla Model Y police vehicle that Unplugged Performance’s UPfit will deliver to South Pasadena, the first city in the US to replace its entire police fleet with electric vehicles.
