Tesla is working on a new project that could (again) change the future of the electric car! No, we are not talking about the hypothetical Gigafactory that could see the light of day in France, but rather the creation of a wireless charger for its vehicles.

Tesla, the famous car manufacturer specializing in electric vehicles, recently showed interest in acquiring a small German company specializing in wireless charging. While this technology for electric vehicles has yet to take off despite the efforts of several companies, Tesla is seriously considering launching its own wireless chargereven if cable charging remains more efficient and less expensive.
Through this possible acquisition (and technology), Elon Musk’s company sees the possibility ofautomate the charging process in order to open the doors of the autonomous car a little more – even if Tesla still has a long way to go on this side. In fact, this idea could not be more understandable. Indeed, if cars can drive themselves, it makes sense that they can charge themselves, without someone needing to plug them in.

Over the years, Tesla has favored the idea of an automated robotic arm rather than a wireless charger for its electric vehicles. However, recently the automaker presented the concept of a new home wireless charging station. Partly for these reasons Wiferion, a German company founded in 2016, caught Tesla’s attention., as Gründerszene tells us. The German company has developed inductive charging solutions for industrial robots and electric vehicles, and has already deployed more than 8,000 chargers – mainly for industrial robots. Since Tesla also uses many industrial robots in its factories, Wiferion’s expertise in this area could be beneficial for the automaker.

Acquiring Wiferion would give it access to proven technology and existing production capacity, which could bolster its work in wireless charging. Nevertheless, the outcome of this operation remains uncertain, and it remains to be seen whether Tesla will go through with this acquisition. Still, it’s a testament to Tesla’s continued focus on innovating and improving the charging experience for owners of its electric vehicles.
