Tesla delivered 310,048 vehicles in the quarter, a slight increase from the previous quarter.

(Archyde.com) – Tesla Inc reported on Saturday that first-quarter deliveries of electric vehicles hit a new high, but production fell from the previous quarter due to supply chain disruptions and plant shutdowns in China.

“It was an ‘unusually difficult’ quarter due to supply chain disruptions and China’s zero policy,” CEO Elon Musk tweeted.

Tesla delivered 310,048 vehicles in the quarter, a slight increase from the previous quarter and a 68% increase from a year earlier. Wall Street expected the company to deliver 308,836 vehicles in the first quarter, according to Refinitiv data.

Tesla produced 305,407 vehicles between January and March, compared with 305,840 in the previous quarter.

Tesla, the world’s largest auto industry by market value, has weathered the pandemic and supply chain disruptions better than rivals, and its new factory in Shanghai, China, has fueled growth.

But a recent surge in coronavirus cases in China has forced Tesla to temporarily suspend production at its Shanghai plant amid a local lockdown to screen residents for the virus.

Tesla said it sold a total of 295,324 Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility vehicles (SUVs), while delivering 14,724 Model S luxury sedans and Model X premium SUVs.
