Chinese manufacturer Oppo has launched its new batch of mid-range smartphones in Europe, the Reno 10 and Reno 10 Pro. The opportunity for us to look at the Reno 10 Pro and see what changes compared to the previous model released in our region, the Oppo Reno 8 Pro, last year.

Un design original

The years go by, but they are not alike. An observation that can also be made with the Reno range from Oppo. Because yes, the latest from the Chinese manufacturer moves away from its predecessor in terms of design, as the latter already did before it. Say goodbye to the messy mirror effect and welcome back to a textured shell pleasant in handwith a dispensable “glow” effect, and curved edges.

The photo block has also been reviewed. It offers a different approach than the Reno 8 Pro which relied on the back side of the phone. Thick, it stands out from the rest and takes an original oval shape, in addition to an organization of the sensors that is out of the ordinary. One thing is clear here, Oppo wanted to be bold with the design of the Reno 10 Pro, to highlight the photo part of the device.

Versatile and great for selfies

The main new features of the Reno 10 Pro are indeed in terms of its photo capabilities. The device thus embarks at the front the first telephoto lens in the Reno series (2X optical zoom). The result is impressive – and sometimes unflattering, but that has nothing to do with the phone in this case. The quality and brightness are stunning, as are the details. As for the autofocus, nothing to complain about. The Reno 10 Pro impresses when it comes to selfies.

On the back side, there is an evolution compared to the Reno 8 Pro, with a 32MP 2X telephoto portrait camera, as presented by Oppo. And the result is also quite impressive. We also note a much larger zoom (up to x5) – which is not negligible – although some might regret the sensor and the macro mode. Added to this are a 50 Mp wide-angle and an 8 Mp ultra-wide-angle similar to those of the predecessor.

Generally, the quality is there. The Reno 10 Pro leads its boat well for a device of this caliber, even if it could be criticized for not capturing photos in its full resolution of 50 Mp by default – mode which only offers a zoom of X2. Moreover, the difference in image quality is not always obvious. It also fishes in low light.

Top overall performance

In terms of user experience, nothing to complain about. And we suspected it. Oppo offers us a mid-range smartphone with very good bills, thanks to its Snapdragon 778G processor coupled not with 8, but with 12 GB of RAM, and its FHD+ OLED display with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. We, for our part, encountered no problems during our test, despite a processor that can be described as old-fashionedbut if you plan on extensive use, you may still be limited.

Finally, with regard to its autonomythe device does not particularly stand out, neither for good nor for bad. It will last all day without worry., but it will need a little juice to also last the night. Fortunately, the Reno 10 Pro is still supplied with a SuperVOOC charger (80W) which will only take 30 minutes to fully charge it.

Conclusion

Overall, the Reno 10 Pro is successful. Even if it does not mark a real revolution in itself, it offers several notable improvements, especially in terms of photography. Both efficient for “normal” daily use and equipped with a bright screen, the device is versatile in terms of photography and manages to ensure good general quality. It especially stands out when it comes to selfies, thanks to its telephoto lens on the front and back of the phone. Selfies are both bright and detailed. Finally, the autonomy of the device is not lacking since it will last all day, without standing out. However, we can blame it for the lack of water resistance and a micro SD port. In summary, the Reno 10 Pro is a nice upgrade at a price (659 €) that goes against the trend of manufacturers since it is down from the previous model. However, it remains superior to other models of the same size.
