Test reveals performance of AMD 4800S, Xbox Series X processor, running Windows games

The AMD 4800S Desktop Kit is an innovative product that allows users to build a PC with the same CPU as Xbox Series X, Microsoft’s latest generation console. The kit comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800S processor, a mini-ITX motherboard, a Wraith Stealth cooler and a 500W power supply. The goal is to offer a console-like PC gaming experience, but with the flexibility and customization of a computer.

To test the performance of the AMD 4800S Desktop Kit, the EuroGamer portal team ran some popular PC games and compared the results with Xbox Series X and a similarly configured PC. The chosen games were: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal and Forza Horizon 4.

In all, the same graphic settings and resolution (1080p) as the console were used.

It proved capable of running games with fluidity and quality, reaching frame rates per second (FPS) close to or even higher than those of the Xbox Series X. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, for example, the kit achieved an average of 60 FPS, while the console stayed at 55 FPS.

In Cyberpunk 2077, the kit had an even greater advantage, with 48 FPS against 30 FPS on the console. In Doom Eternal, both performed excellently, with over 100 FPS. And in Forza Horizon 4, the kit lagged slightly behind the console, with 72 FPS versus 75 FPS.

However, the AMD 4800S Desktop Kit also has some limitations. The main one is availability. The product is sold exclusively through the AMD online store in Brazil, and is subject to limited stock and delivery delays. Another limitation is compatibility.

The kit only works with AMD graphics cards from the RX 5000 series or higher, which restricts the options and can increase the final cost of the PC. Finally, the kit does not guarantee that all PC games will run as smoothly as on console, as this also depends on developer optimizations and driver updates.
