Texas beats Chicago in ring delivery

Jared Walsh hit a home run in his first at-bat with Texas, after watching the ceremony in which his new teammates received their World Series championship rings and before the Rangers crushed the Chicago Cubs 11-2.

Adolis García emulated Walsh’s two-run homer in the second inning, with a club that meant the lead in the third. Corey Seager had four singles and two RBIs as the Major League champions began the season with a 2-0 record.

IN CHICAGO, Carson Kelly hit run-scoring singles in the seventh and 10th innings to help the Detroit Tigers rally to beat Cuba’s Luis Robert Jr. and the White Sox 7-6.

Mark Canha and Riley Greene homered for the Tigers. Parker Meadows reached three times as the leadoff batter and robbed Martín Maldonado of a home run with a leap into center field.

Canha was the automatic runner in the tenth when Kelly hit a grounder to center against Deivi García (0-1), giving Detroit the definitive lead. Kelly also drove in Canha with a two-out single in the seventh to tie it at 6.

RHYS HOSKINS drove in four runs a day after his hard slide to Jeff McNeil caused both dugouts to clear and Yohan Ramirez was ejected for pitching behind Milwaukee’s designated hitter and the Brewers beat the New York Mets 7-6.— AP
