Thanasis Antetokounmpo Extends Contract with Bucks: Stays United with Brother Giannis

Thanasis Antetokounmpo will not leave his brother Giannis this year. At the end of the contract, the winger extended to the Bucks.

Arrived at the Bucks in 2019, Thanasis Antetokounmpo therefore extends the adventure in Wisconsin. Limited to a bench end role (37 games played last season, less than 6 minutes per game on the floor on average), the Greek seems visibly to appreciate his place among the 2021 NBA champions. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, he extended his contract with the franchise tonight. No details are given by the insider but we can bet on the fact that it is a deal at least, probably over a year.

Antetokounmpo chose return to the Bucks over multiple options, including Knicks, sources said. Brothers Giannis and Thanasis, Brook and Robin Lopez all reunited in Milwaukee for next season.

Shams also tells us that the player had several offers on the table, including one from the Knicks. He ultimately chose to stay with the Bucks rather than go to the Big Apple. Given the very limited role of the player, we suspect that the franchise has also taken care to extend Thanasis to please his brother Giannis, the superstar of the team. Thanasis Antetokounmpo thus completes the Bucks roster, which now has fifteen contracts for next season. The brother of the Greek Freak will make an express return trip to the States side before leaving with the Greek selection. He was retained in the extended list which must compete in the 2023 World Cup in Japan and the Philippines.

Milwaukee Bucks 2023/24:

Guards: Holiday, Andre Jackson, Wigginton*, Allen, Connaughton, Beasley, AJ Green

Forwards: Middleton, Crowder, Beauchamp, Moore*, Livingston, Thanasis and Giannis, Portis

Centers: Lopez and Lopez

* Two-Way contracts
