That’s how expensive the extreme weather bill was in China

The financial losses as a result of July’s natural disasters amounted to 76.9 billion yuan (equivalent to almost SEK 113 billion), according to the ministry responsible for crisis management, the news agency reports Reuters. Close to 90 percent of the costs are linked to the consequences of heavy rains and floods.

More than 26 million people across China were affected by natural disasters in July, according to the ministry. As a result, 328 people have died or are missing.

Extreme weather events such as torrential rain, heat waves, storms and floods are expected to become more frequent and more intense as a result of climate change.
