Laïka, a female terrier recovered from the streets of Moscow, is the first dog to orbit the Earth. She traveled aboard the Russian satellite Sputnik 2. However, the anger quickly took precedence over the joy of this achievement: the Soviets had not planned a way to bring Laïka safely back to Earth. She tragically died four days later in the satellite due to overheating. His remains were cremated once Sputnik 2 returned to Earth.
