the 2020 virtual edition program

Main Square TV begins this Friday in an online version. Live reruns, new pre-recorded concerts and DJ sets to watch in front of the screen are on the program.

The Main Square Festival in Arras was scheduled to start on Friday July 3 and end on Sunday. But due to the coronavirus epidemic, the music festival cannot be held. At least, in its classic version.

Unable to offer large concerts bringing together thousands of spectators due to health regulations, the organizers decided to organize the Main Square Festival … online! For its 2020 edition, the event, which begins this Friday, has been renamed Main Square TV. Via the Main Square Festival website or on its Facebook page, festival-goers can follow a series of live concerts online.

Live reruns … and new concerts

This Friday and throughout the weekend, the festival will offer reruns of live concerts by artists who have performed at Main Square in recent years. It will be possible to review the passages in the Citadel of Macklemore, Paul Kalkbrenner, Vald, Arnaud Rebotini, Seasick Steve, Queens of the Stone Age, Xavier Rudd, The Inspector Cluzo, Damian Marley, Wolf Alice, Miles Kane, Rival Sons, Girls in Hawaii, Thylacine or Editors.

But it will also be possible to attend new and pre-recorded shows for the occasion at the Citadel. Concerts by Skip the Use & Last Train and by Marcel and his Orchestra will also be broadcast. DJs like Marquise, Kramder, David Awa & Patrick, Mix Club Hoodini, Mozambo, DJ Starfish, Koos or Hune will offer sets broadcast from the Greenroom Cabins.

The concerts of the three winners of the Main Square Festival springboard, namely Pastel Coast, Betical and Midos Ladowz, recorded at the Pharos d’Arras were also broadcast.

In addition to concerts, Main Square TV will also offer online cooking or aperitif tutorials. A documentary devoted to the French group The Last Train and entitled The Big Picture will also be broadcast on Sunday at 7.50 p.m.

Sting and Twenty One Pilots to meet in 2021

The festival should resume in its classic version next year. As Armel Campagna, director of the Main Square festival since 2011, explained to The voice of the North, “The posters for the 2021 festivals will be composed of 80% of artists initially scheduled for 2020”.

The singer Sting and the Twenty One Pilots, who were to participate in the Main Square Festival this year, have already confirmed their presence for next year. It remains to be seen whether the Black Eyed Peas or Nekfeu, scheduled for the 2020 edition, will also be there in a year. Answer maybe this weekend. The organizers have indeed planned to unveil a few other headliners that will thrill the Citadel of Arras next summer.
