Intercéales-France will organize next Tuesday, October 3 in Casablanca “The 2023 Franco-Moroccan cereal meetings”, under the presidency of Philippe Heusele, cereal farmer and president of international relations for the French cereals inter-profession.

In 2023, the French harvest yielded 35.1 million tonnes (Mt) of milling wheat, 1.27Mt of durum wheat and 12.1Mt of barley. On the quality side, the 2023 vintage of milling wheat is very interesting, both technologically and health-wise, underlines the organization in a press release.

The conference on October 3 will be an opportunity to present this new French cereal harvest. France, the fifth world producer and fourth exporter of milling wheat, will be able to meet the demanding demands of its international customers and partners. It plans to export, outside the EU, nearly 9.5Mt of milling wheat during the 2023-2024 marketing year.

For the second year in a row, the Kingdom suffered a serious drought which had a very negative impact on local production. The weakness of the 2023 harvest will force Morocco to purchase its entire industrial needs for milling wheat (5Mt) on the world market, with the addition of: 1Mt of durum wheat, 900Kt of barley and more than 2.5Mt of corn. .

France has been Morocco’s leading wheat supplier for many years. It largely contributes to filling its deficit, since it provided more than 60% of the Kingdom’s needs for milling wheat in 2022/23. It should be noted that at the end of September, more than a million tonnes of French wheat had already arrived in Moroccan ports.

This seminar will also provide an update on the trends and prospects of the cereal market at the global level. The results are very tense, due to a geopolitical context that remains as stressed as ever since Russia invaded Ukraine. And even if global production is generally good, experts agree that logistics issues remain a major challenge.
