The work of the second edition of MeetMED Week opened on Tuesday in Marrakech, with the participation of a host of political decision-makers and representatives of stakeholders in the Mediterranean region.

Organized by the Mediterranean Association of National Agencies for Energy Management (MEDENER), the Regional Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), this The three-day event is part of the Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (MeetMED) project.

This project aims to strengthen the implementation of energy efficiency measures and improve the energy mix of beneficiary countries by focusing on the building sector through a multi-scale, multi-partner and inclusive approach at local levels. and regional, thus promoting regional cooperation.

MeetMED Week aims to contribute to the creation of more stable, more efficient, more competitive and more climate-resilient socio-economic contexts in the targeted countries, and also to constitute a real opportunity for economic development, able to put highlights the strengths and potential of Morocco in order to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of public and private ecosystems.

This meeting also sets itself the task of promoting the commitment of stakeholders and national authorities in the objectives of the meetMED II project, through the mobilization and involvement of national actors, local authorities, operators in the sector. private sector, civil society and the population, at regional and local levels; dissemination of best practices in the construction and household appliance sectors; the development and replication of energy efficiency measures; and public awareness and investment in these sectors.

MeetMED Week offers an important opportunity to discuss the energy and environmental transition in the Mediterranean region, as well as to strengthen regional cooperation and encourage the adoption of sustainable practices in key energy sectors.

During these three days, the debates will be articulated around themes related in particular to “Energy and climate transition in the Mediterranean Region”, “Energy and climate transition in the building sector”, “Role of local authorities in energy transition” , “Concerted action on buildings from the perspective of the meetMED project”.

The program of this meeting also includes training sessions and workshops: “Regional workshop on energy efficiency financing mechanisms”, “Training in Energy Efficiency Monitoring”, “Training in EE in buildings” among others. The Kingdom’s choice to organize this event of international scope comes at the right time to affirm Morocco’s commitment to energy and environmental transition and to strengthening regional cooperation in the countries of the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMC ).

As part of the Kingdom’s efforts to strengthen its energy sovereignty while promoting the transition to a low-carbon economy, this flagship event for the entire Mediterranean basin represents an opportunity for high-level political dialogue where policy makers and relevant stakeholders will come together to exchange experiences and discuss the next steps for decarbonizing the region.
