Due to the new coronavirus pandemic, Berlin, one of the three largest film festivals in Europe, will take place in two stages this year.
From March 1 to March 5, the annual European Film Market will take place in the virtual environment, but from June 9 to June 20, hoping for the situation to return to normal, Berlin’s “summer special” with theatrical screenings, film premieres and face-to-face meetings between the public and filmmakers. Then it is also planned to present prizes.
Traditionally, the festival takes place in February, with the participation of hundreds of industry professionals and film celebrities.
15 films compete for the main prize of the festival “Golden Bear”. The winner, selected by the jury, will be announced on Friday.
Applicants include films from Germany, France, Romania, Hungary, Mexico, South Korea, Japan and other countries.
The main competition of the Berlin Festival includes a Latvian director’s film “In Natural Light” shot in Latvia, the co-production partner of which is the Latvian studio “Mistrus Media”.
Latvian film professionals are participating in the festival with film screenings in the film market, a Latvian “stand” in the virtual environment of Berlin and a special film therapy session for all interested parties, the representative of the National Film Center (NCC) Kristīne Matīsa informed last week.
