The meeting of the Youth and Sports Committee in the House of Representatives, chaired by Dr. Mahmoud Hussein, witnessed extensive discussions about the amendments to the Sports Law submitted by the government to amend some provisions of the Sports Law promulgated by Law No. 71 of 2017 submitted by the government, and two draft laws submitted by Representatives Khaled Badawi and Aya Madani on the same subject.

Representative Hazem Imam, Secretary of the Committee, stressed the necessity of making amendments in the section on sports bodies stipulating the application of the 8-year clause for the position in the elections of sports clubs.

Imam stressed that setting the 8-year period helps give the general assemblies the opportunity to choose new boards of directors, which helps in pumping new blood, pointing out that the current situation makes the members of the boards of directors continue for as long as possible because of their control over the general assemblies.

This was agreed upon by Representative Tharwat Sweilem, who announced his full support for the text of the 8-year clause, in the new amendments to the draft law, to prevent the various boards of directors from unilaterally controlling the fate of clubs for as long as possible.
