Dr. Jean-Pierre Després visited the Montmagny Library to present his new book “The active revolution: from disease management to health promotion” in his native region. The book suggests several concrete actions to implement in your daily life in order to prevent chronic illnesses rather than having to cure them.

Jean-Pierre Després’ book notes that the Quebec health system spends a huge amount of money each year curing diseases that could have been prevented. He explains, among other things, that reimbursements for drugs only to treat type 2 diabetes cost billions of dollars per year even though it is only one of these chronic diseases that could be prevented by maintaining cardiorespiratory health. “Did you know that the most important thing we need to know about you to determine your life trajectory in health or illness is your physical fitness or your cardiorespiratory condition? It is the number one risk factor for many diseases. »

With this work, he wishes to encourage a revolution among Quebecers and so that the money spent on numerous medications is rather spent on prevention, with nutritionists or kinesiologists for example.

The scientist also presents concrete solutions that everyone can implement in their daily lives in order to improve or maintain their physical fitness. It also addresses several aspects related to weight loss.

Jean-Pierre Després was at the Montmagny Library on November 14. He held a small conference there to answer people’s questions about his new work followed by a signing session. “I feel a lot of emotion being here at home and seeing people who took time to come meet me and talk about healthy lifestyle habits. It will always be important for me to be there for my region,” mentioned Mr. Després to conclude his conference.

The scientist also made special mention of the organization Les Enfants d’cœur, which works to raise funds in the region to promote healthy lifestyle habits among young people. “These are business people for whom physical activity has been beneficial and who have decided to share this with young people. It is the very demonstration that the population can act to do more for the cause of health. »

Dr Després’ book has been available in several bookstores in Quebec, including the Librairie Livres en tête de Montmagny, since October.
