The alarm for possible bombs in Venice is invalid – 2024-03-27 12:16:15

A bag and a rolling suitcase abandoned over high water bridges prompted a bomb threat in St. Mark’s Square, which turned out to be false as the luggage was eventually forgotten by tourists. The police cordoned off the area between the bell tower and the entrance of the Basilica.

According to La Repubblica from the first indications, the two bags had been noticed a little earlier in front of the Doge’s Palace, which had been left unattended by some people. Called by the local police officers, their owners had moved them, only to abandon them again near the bell tower of Saint Mark.

Due to the international alert, a security alert was activated and a large part of the square was closed to traffic, pending the firemen.
