Just four days before the presidential inauguration, Javier Milei faces a legal challenge that could put his still incomplete Cabinet assembly in check. Due to different current legislations, Karina Milei could not be appointed to the General Secretariat of the Presidency and Rodolfo Barra could not take over as Attorney General of the Nation’s Treasury.
According to ley 18.777, which defines the operation of the Treasury Attorney General’s Office, the designated person must be no less than 30 years old, nor more than 70 years old. Article 2 details: “The Attorney General of the National Treasury must be an Argentine citizen, not less than thirty nor more than seventy years, lawyer with the qualifying title issued or revalidated by the Argentine University and with at least eight years of experience in the profession.
