The assailant in Anderlecht’s attack wielded not only a grenade but also a firearm.

An attack occurred in a café on rue Edmond Delcourt at around 8:10 pm on Thursday. The prosecution stated that a man entered the bar and threatened those present with a firearm. When he found himself alone in the bar, he threw an object in the middle of the room and fled. According to initial findings, the object was a grenade, but it turned out to be a practice grenade that did not explode. As soon as the establishment was evacuated, the police established a security perimeter. The army demining service (Sedee) arrived to defuse the explosive, and when it was determined that no risk was posed, the security perimeter was lifted. The prosecution was informed of the incident and ordered investigative duties, including the appointment of a ballistics expert and the analysis of camera footage. The federal police laboratory also visited the scene.
