The series “The Assassins,” written by Abdel Rahim Kamal and directed by Peter Mimi, topped search engines after several teasers for it were published.

The star Karim Abdel Aziz embodies the role of Hassan Al-Sabah, the young man who embarks on an epic journey after joining the “Ismaili Shiite sect” at the age of 17, and founding the group that was later called “the Assassins,” to engage in conflicts and confrontations.

Below we publish the most important information about Alamut Castle, which Hassan al-Sabah, the founder of the most dangerous bloody group in history, took as the headquarters of his alleged call and movement.

– Hassan al-Sabah was not only busy winning supporters for his cause; But he was also busy finding a base to spread the Ismaili faith throughout the country to avoid the Seljuk danger, as he preferred a remote and impregnable stronghold and a safe haven for the Assassins, so he chose Alamut Castle, as it was a fortress built on top of a high rock in the heart of the Alborz Mountains.

– Alamut Castle means “eagle’s den” or “eagle’s nest”, and it is a mountain fortress located on top of a mountain, located in the middle of the Alborz Mountains or the Daylam Mountains, south of the Caspian Sea in (the city of Rud Bar) near the Shah Ward River. It is about 100 km from the capital, Tehran.

The fort was built around the year 840 and is at an altitude of 2,100 metres.

The location of the castle dominates an enclosed, arable valley with a length of thirty miles and a maximum width of three miles. The castle rises more than 6,000 feet above the ground, and can only be reached via a narrow, steep road.

– The castle was built in such a way that it had only one road leading to and from it, and it wound around an artificial slope (the natural slope has steep and dangerous rocks), so any invasion of the fort must be taken into account due to the danger of undertaking this act.

The main builder of the castle is not known. It is said that the one who built it was one of the ancient kings of Daylam. Then an Alawite ruler renewed it in the year 860, and it remained in their hands until the Assassin sect entered it.

Hassan al-Sabah was able to enter the castle secretly on Wednesday, September 4, 1090 AD, thanks to his supporters hidden inside the castle. He remained hidden inside it for a short period before he took control of the entire castle and removed its old owner after giving him 3,000 gold dinars as the price for it.

Hassan Al-Sabah became master of the Castle of Death, and did not leave it for 35 years until his death. During this period, they represented an extension of the Fatimid state in Cairo before the schism occurred.

– The castle was very fortified, but Rukn al-Din Khurshah, the last prince of the fort, surrendered without a fight in the hope that Hulagu would have mercy on them, which he did not do, but rather destroyed it completely, on his way to invade Baghdad on December 1, 1256 AD.

Some ruins remain, next to 23 buildings that were libraries and gardens.

– In 2004, a strong earthquake occurred in the area, destroying the remaining walls of the fort.
