‘The bad name came; The party is suffering the ill effects of giving membership to all who see it.’

Palakkad: State Secretary M. V. said that the CPM is experiencing the ill effects of giving membership to those who have no idea about the communist-Marxist ideology. Govindan. MV Govindan’s self-criticism is in the context of Bhagwal Singh, who is one of the main accused in the Pathanamthitta Ilantur human sacrifice case, being involved in various cases regarding the CPM relationship and party branch secretaries among others.

The CPM State Secretary was speaking at the inauguration of the EMS study center in Palakkad Vadakancheri.

‘No one should have the impression that they are Marxists just because they have got membership. We are now suffering the consequences of not doing so. Give membership to all who see, sometimes become a branch secretary, become a local committee member and do not copy even an iota of the semantics, ideology, dialectical materialism of social life in your own life. And then slide into pure nonsense, superstition and false position. Then make us hear the bad name of being a communist and party member. All this is being heard now. It should be possible to work properly’ said MV Govindan.

The ideological political dimension is very important for the CPM. Political philosophy and ideological views form the basis of organizational activity. Any practical work done without political understanding without conceptual clarity cannot scientifically mobilize the masses. He also clarified that claiming to have good philosophical, political and ideological understanding and not doing any practical work is indeed rude.

‘One can emerge as a real Marxist only when one reads well, learns, acts accordingly and learns again. Everything cannot be studied and completed. Learn everything you can. Marxists must grow to a level where they can understand man and society. Without that rise we assign to the fan group just one year ago. He would not have looked back unless it was fixed. Next year candidate membership is given. Full membership will be given again next year. Membership in the Communist Party does not make him a Communist. I am making that very clear. Just because one has party membership does not necessarily make one a communist. To be a Marxist one must have a general understanding of the above. Govindan added that there should be a preliminary understanding of ideology, dialectical materialism, historical materialism, party programmes, national philosophy and semiology.
