In 2023, Karin Keller-Sutter arranged a forced marriage and it earned her the admiration of The Banker, a specialized magazine widely read by financial professionals. If he elected the Federal Councilor as Finance Minister of the year in Europe, it is because the marriage in question was that of Credit Suisse and UBS, on March 19, 2023. An event which propelled the liberal-radical to the heart of attention and under pressure that few of her international colleagues have experienced, underlines the magazine in particular in an article published this Tuesday.

All just two months after Saint-Galloise took charge of federal finances. For her, as for the directors of the National Bank and Finma, UBS had to take over its former rival (for 3 billion francs) in order to protect the Swiss economy from disaster and limit contagion. Quoted in The Banker article, Karin Keller-Sutter said she was delighted to have received this award, even if she would have preferred that Switzerland had not experienced the collapse of Credit Suisse.
