A sacred or medal-winning athlete at the Olympic Games secures eternal glory, but that’s not all. Because he also receives a nice sum of money, in addition to the piece of metal hanging from his neck: 65,000 euros for gold, 25,000 for silver and 15,000 for bronze. The amount allocated to medal-winning athletes during the Beijing Games is the same as for athletes who competed at the Summer Games last year. The amounts are identical to those received for the Tokyo Olympics.

The amount is taxed

On the other hand, the total sum is far lower, the athletes having returned from Beijing with 14 charms, including five in gold, seven in silver, and two in bronze, while their counterparts from the Tokyo Olympics brought back 33. Above all, France shone in team sports in Japan. However, each of the players of the same team, volleyball or basketball, receives his own reward. This explains the soaring amount. In all, 790,000 euros in bonuses will be paid by the State, via the Ministry of Sports, for the Blues medalists in Beijing this winter.

Brilliant from one end to the other of this Olympic fortnight which will have seen him win no less than five medals in biathlon, i.e. almost half of the overall results of these Games alone, Quentin Fillon Maillet is the most good share of the cake, and will touch alone 205,000 euros. If premiums have increased since Pyeongchang, they are now taxed, like in Tokyo. The National Sports Agency (ANS) will also pay money to the coaches of medal-winning athletes: 35,000 for gold, 15,000 for silver and 8,000 for third place.
