the before / after quite bluffing! — Mode and The City

Hello everyone ! We meet today for a new decorative article in which I tell you about the renovation of one of my favorite rooms in the house: our bathroom!

The bathroom space

As I mentioned in this article on our renovation project and our collaboration with an architect, we did a pretty big job of rearranging the space in the house during the renovation. Originally, our current bathroom was slightly smaller and connected to our bedroom.

While the idea of the master suite is appealing, it’s not something that fits our lifestyle: Vincent and I have slightly offbeat rhythms and I go to bed / get up earlier than him. Therefore, the connecting bathroom was not necessarily an idea that we liked: I personally did not want to have to walk on tiptoe and not make noise in the morning while getting ready while Vincent was still sleeping. and for his part Vincent would probably have woken me up at night using the bathroom if it communicated with the bedroom.

So we decided to close the bathroom to separate it from our bedroom and we don’t regret our choice! A new door was thus created in the hallway (to allow access to the bathroom) and we took the opportunity to enlarge it slightly by trimming the kitchen space (which gives behind the wall that you see on the first picture below).

Quite a transformation, isn’t it? I myself find it hard to believe that it is the same part! For this space, we wanted warm and slightly stronger colors than in the rest of the house and, as with all the other parts, cocooning was the key word! One of my favorite things is the window in the shower that overlooks the bamboo trees, it’s such a calming view. In the morning the light is magnificent in the room and the sound of the wind in the bamboo is so pleasant in summer when you shower with the window open!

We have chosen to use waxed concrete in the bathroom: we loved the look of it (especially the lack of a boundary between the floor and the shower) and it’s a really comfortable material underfoot for a bathroom where you walk a lot barefoot! He was obviously specifically treated for porosity since he is in a body of water. We also used waxed concrete for the worktop and the result is superb! We used Mercadier’s Mignon and Atlas shades.

We opted for a golden taps from Tres Griferia, a brand with which Constance, our architect, used to work. This gold really enhances the rest of the colors in the bathroom ! For the washbasins we chose a rectangular model from Porcelanosa: I must admit that I don’t like “bowl” washbasins because I find that there is always water everywhere and this rectangular shape is super practical and timeless! No regrets !

Tile sidewe used the same travertine as our kitchen floor, which was custom cut by our contractor to make long, rectangular tiles for laying in a herringbone pattern. I love the result, both in the shower and as a splashback behind the sinks! It was really a work of goldsmith (I showed you that in Stories) and the result is sumptuous!

The paint used in this room is the sand color of the Argile brand (from the organic range) and, as in our bedroom, the walls AND the ceiling were painted the same color, which reinforces this “cocooning” side! This is a great tip that Constance passed on to me!

We chose to create our washbasin cabinet with Metod low cabinets from Ikea and Plum fronts in walnut! I love the result, I think the shade goes really well with the shades of beige / pink in the room! As we lacked a little storage (for towels, sheets, beauty products in advance in particular), we also added a Pax wardrobe from Ikea, again with matching Plum doors to our vanity unit!

We also installed a Sauter towel warmer (this is the Asama Ventilo model) in the bathroom and I am delighted with the cappuccino color we have chosen! It fits really well into the color palette of the bathroom and that’s exactly what I wanted! The towel dryer is connected and therefore easily adjustable remotely using the Sauter app. We programmed it to be warm in the morning when we get ready, which is very pleasant, especially in this season! We have several radiators of this brand and our cumulus also comes from Sauter so it’s great to be able to control everything remotely with the same app: particularly practical when you want to turn the heating on or off when you’re not at home, for example!

In order to recall the arches present in the house, we glued rounded Leroy Merlin mirrors above the sink. It was again a recommendation from Constance and an inexpensive option that works really well! Unfortunately I can’t find them on their eshop anymore ???? Around the mirrors we have installed 2 Vanity Boom wall lights, one of my favorite lighting brands! I love the delicacy of their pieces and the light is very soft which is very nice in a bathroom (the full face lights above the mirror showing all the flaws in the skin is my angst haha) .

What a pleasure to get ready in this bathroom every evening and morning, I never get tired of it!
