Russia’s second racket Veronika Kudermetova reached the fourth round of a major tournament in Madrid, where her opponent will be compatriot Daria Kasatkina.
Kudermetova in the 1/16 finals defeated another Russian Anastasia Potapova with a score of 7:6 (7:3), 5:7, 6:3. The match lasted three hours.
Kudermetova made three aces (Potapova – two), made three fewer double faults and converted four of 11 break points.
Ukrainian refused to shake hands with Kasatkina after losing in Madrid
Kasatkina previously defeated Ukrainian Lesya Tsurenko with a score of 6:4, 6:2.
Kasatkina occupies the eighth line in the ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Kudermetova – 13th, Potapova – 25th.
The prize pool of the WTA-1000 tournament in Madrid exceeds €7.7 million.
