RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — The border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip opened Saturday to allow the entry of urgently needed humanitarian aid to Palestinians, who have no food, medicine or water in the territory besieged by Israel.

More than 200 trucks loaded with some 3,000 tons of aid spent days parked next to the border post waiting to cross into Gaza. An Associated Press reporter saw the vehicles enter the enclave.

Israel blockaded the territory and launched waves of airstrikes following the incursion of Hamas insurgents into the south of the country on October 7.

Many Gaza residents, who eat just one meal a day and do not have enough drinking water, are desperately waiting for help. Hospitals urgently need medical supplies and fuel for their generators due to the high number of injuries caused by the bombings.

Hundreds of people with foreign passports were also waiting to cross from Gaza into Egypt and escape the war.
