A tragedy occurred in Sao Paulo, Brazil, when a group of workers who were constructing two 33-story commercial buildings in Santo Amaro were left hanging on a scaffolding regarding 140 meters high and one of them died following falling into the void.

The workers who suffered the accident were working on a scaffolding that connects the towers at the top, 140 meters high, when part of the structure collapsed.

At least 7 construction employees were left hanging from the structure for 40 minutes before being rescued. The Sao Paulo Fire Department confirmed that a worker died following his safety equipment failed and he fell into the void.

A local resident told the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo that at the time of the accident he heard a loud bang, ran to the window and managed to see the falling debris.

A video that has gone viral on social networks shows the moment when the workers were hanging from the structure.

To help save the workers who were hanging from the platform, ten Sao Paulo Police vehicles and a Military Police helicopter were mobilized.

The structure is part of the architectural design of the commercial complex under construction. The buildings will be connected at the top by a helipad.
