Bulgaria’s men’s 4 by 100 meter freestyle relay team set a new national record during the world championships in Doha (Qatar), but failed to win a quota for the Olympic Games in Paris. Yosif Miladinov, Kaloyan Bratanov, Petar Mitsin and Yordan Yanchev finished in 3:20.53 minutes, bettering the previous national record of 3:20.86 from Rome three years ago.

The Bulgarians remained in 16th place in the ranking. The first 13 teams qualified for the Olympic Games, taking the results from the previous World Cup in Fukuoka as well.

Earlier in the day, the Bulgarian representatives were eliminated in the series. Miladinov placed 21st in the 50m butterfly, finishing in 23.63 seconds.

Tonislav Sabev placed 31st in the 100-meter breaststroke with 1:01.95 min.

Petar Mitsin, on the other hand, remained in 23rd place in the 400m freestyle with 3:49.43 min. The World and European junior champion in this discipline was moving well until the middle of the distance, but fell behind after the first 250m and gave a much slower time from his junior world record – 3:44.31 minutes.
