After six years of work, the reopening of the Neptunium swimming pool was eagerly awaited in the Cité des Ânes. An inauguration which took place this Saturday, before opening to the public from this Monday in mid-September.

Our colleagues from RTBF note in the regulations of the new infrastructure that the wearing of the burkini is authorized. As a reminder, this is a one-piece swimsuit for women covering the body as well as the head.

“Decent attire required”: controversies over burkini and monokini at the swimming pool ignite this French city

The regulations do not mention the burkini as such, but require the wearing of a swimsuit “partially or completely covering the body”.

The environmentalist Sports alderman, Thomas Eraly (Ecolo), confirms to our colleagues in the public service the authorization of the burkini, without however using the word. “We don’t want to slow anyone down [à la pratique du sport] in our community.” The City of Brussels, for its part, explicitly prohibits the burkini in its regulations.
