The Cambria project will be sold for more than 800 dollars according to Meta

According to a spokesperson for Metaits next autonomous VR headset called Cambria project will be priced significantly over $800. If there are no changes, it should hit the market later this year.

For the moment, Mark Zuckerberg’s firm has not yet revealed the official name of its next VR headset, the Cambria project. Nevertheless, it is known to be high-end VR hardware. It will be more focused on professional use cases, but also compatible with Quest games. Anyway, according to a recent report by The Information, two people familiar with the matter said that Meta plans to sell Cambria for $799. The company is also planning to launch three other VR headsets by 2024 according to other sources. However, Meta’s spokesperson announced that the price of the VR device will be significantly higher than that.

Project Cambria: Do the specs of the headset justify its $800+ price tag?

Meta has yet to reveal the release date or official name of its upcoming VR headset as of yet. However, it has already revealed some of its specifications. Thus, the VR equipment will be equipped, among other things, with multi-element pancake lenses, and will be plus compact that the Quest 2 in terms of design.

The device will also offer an eye-tracking and face-tracking system to improve the feeling of presence. It will also offer a Passthrough in high resolution and color. Given its rather enticing technical characteristics, Zuckerberg even recently announced that the VR headset will eventually be able to replace un PC portable.

Apparently, the Project Cambria specs do justify its $800+ price tag. It is well powerful than the Quest 2, which currently starts at $299. Anyway, the report from The Information mentioned above indicates that Meta plans to launch “two new versions” of the latter in 2023 and 2024.

A second version of Project Cambria will also appear in 2024. According to another report from The Verge, the company is additionally preparing to new AR glasses.
