The campaign, in view of the territorial elections of January 23, was launched on Saturday January 8 in Senegal. The Senegalese capital was punctuated, throughout the day and even part of the evening, by political demonstrations of the various candidates running for the municipalities and the mayors of cities.

Music decibels, tom-tom, horns to accompany the caravan of Pape Diop, former mayor of the Senegalese capital from 2002 to 2009. He chose to travel through the popular districts of Medina and Fass.

From the top of his vehicle, sunroof, Pape Diop does not hesitate to decline his program for the reconquest of Dakar: ” Since then, there has been no change. The politicians not making the result of the elections, this are the people of Dakar who, in majority, will vote for us ».

Elsewhere, the atmosphere is less rhythmic. We are a few meters from the Fass market, on the outskirts of Dakar center. It is the headquarters of one of the lieutenants of the Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Mame Mbaye Niang, also a candidate for the city of Dakar.

Bokar Dia is preparing to join the main body with his militants: ” In the morning, we should do some proximity, make the final adjustments. In the evening, we all meet at the level of the department to provide our support to our candidate, at the level of the city ».

The opulent Sacré-Coeur district was chosen by the outgoing mayor, Soham el Wardini, for a kick-off meeting. Not yet on site until early evening. It is the representative of his coalition, Theodore Cherif Monteil, who sets out his roadmap: ” We have nine major major events but most of the campaign will be in the form of proximity because we want to meet citizens ».

Doudou Wade, of the PDS, Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, Minister of Health and candidate for the ruling coalition, as well as other candidates each chose their own way of starting the campaign. Others like Ousmane Sonko and his coalition preferred to go to Ziguinchor, in southern Senegal, for the kickoff.
