The affair caused a stir among public opinion in Burkina Faso. Since January 25, 2024, the famous Burkinabè lawyer Guy Hervé Kam has no longer been free to move.
He was arrested at Ouagadougou international airport while returning from Bobo Dioulasso. He was subsequently taken to the State Security Directorate.
He is suspected of being involved in a case of endangering state security. Several other people both in the country and outside are involved.
According to local media, the services in charge of territorial surveillance have obtained “a body of consistent evidence” on this subject.
Me Guy Hervé Kam “could have been arrested well before January 25, 2024 but his role as a lawyer, member of a civil society organization and a political movement delayed this arrest,” security sources underlined.
It was also essential that a certain amount of evidence be gathered before any arrest of the lawyer. However, investigations are still continuing.
However, the lawyer’s version of this matter is still not known until now. Auditions are still in progress.
Apparently, from what it comes down to, this case of an attack on state security in which the lawyer is suspected would be different from the attempt at destabilization of which the Burkinabe government claimed to have been the target on January 18, 2024.
Note that the lawyer is also coordinator of the SENS Movement. As such, his arrest provoked strong reactions from citizen movements.
Citizen movements demanded his immediate release without delay. They believe that he was arrested in “total disrespect of his rights”.
