The Chamber of Oviedo studies how to seasonally adjust the Asturian mountain

The Oviedo Chamber of Commerce will study the future impact that a new improvement project would have on the facilities of both Pajares and Fuentes de Invierno for the economy of the Asturian mountains. Once the result of the first actions inaugurated on December 28, 2022 has been satisfactory

This is the main conclusion that was drawn yesterday from a meeting held by members of the ski sector in the region (Íñigo Cabal, from Club Elite Mirios; Pablo Crabiffosse, president of the Peñaubiña Alpine Club; Vítor Fernández, concessionaire of the Pajares winter resort , and Javier Martínez, director of the Valgrande-Pajares station) with the president of the Oviedo Chamber of Commerce, Carlos Paniceres, who was accompanied by members of the chamber such as Ignacio Iglesias Carlos Rodríguez de la Torre. As master of ceremonies and spokesman for the group, the deputy director general of SabadellHerrero, Pablo Junceda.

In addition to commissioning the study, the businessmen gave Paniceres a gift “for the work carried out by the Chamber of Commerce in carrying out the first phase of expansion and improvement of the Valgrande-Pajares station,” Junceda assured. And he added: “The work of the Chamber has been good and now we want it to advance the economic and tourist possibilities that the Asturian mountain can have with a second phase of expansion.”

Pablo Junceda himself spoke about the importance of transforming the Asturian mountains into a pole of tourist attraction 365 days a year «not only with skiing, but also with mountain biking and mountain activities and for that we need the infrastructure to be complete with a mountain summer centre, adaptation of slopes and complete completion of the services that an increasingly thriving activity can offer”.

The deputy director of SabadellHerrero assured that “in some mountain enclaves such as Sierra Nevada or the Pyrenees, the high season is no longer winter but rather summer as activities diversify.”

«And the proximity of the Asturian mountains to large population centers in Castilla y León and Madrid can be a pole of tourist attraction that deseasonalizes the offer of the mountain stations in the region and offers a job future for many people, as is the case in other places of the national geography”, he remarked.
