The champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) confirmed this Sunday his dominance in the Moto GP motorcycling World Championship, by winning the Grand Prix of the Netherlands held at the traditional Assen racetrack, distinguished as “The Cathedral of Speed”.

The 26-year-old Italian driver from the city of Turin covered the 26 laps of the circuit in a time of 40m37s640/1000.

“Peco” Bagnaia, who added his fourth victory in the World Championship after eight presentations, dominated widely and led his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) by 1s223/1000.

The third place corresponded to the Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), who had finished fourth on the track, but benefited from the surcharge applied to the South African Brad Binder (KTM), for avoiding the chicane on the last lap of the competition.

With the penalty, Binder was left with fourth place; the Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati) finished fifth, 1s behind. 934/1000, while Alex Márquez (Ducati) finished sixth, 12s behind. 437/1000.

Marc Márquez, six times Moto GP world champion, preferred not to participate in the race, due to the “pain caused by a fractured rib”, in one of the falls he suffered on his Honda machine over the weekend.

The main positions of the championship were as follows: Bagnaia, 194 points; Martin, 159; Bezzecchi, 158; Binder, 114; Johann Zarco (Ducati), 109; Luca Marini (Ducati), 98.
