Liberec – Champions Hockey League, of which the White Tigers are a shareholder, has the year 2024/25 ahead of it. And at this moment, he already knows all 24 participants who are fighting for the European hockey throne.
Among the first, the Servette Geneva team secured its place in the upcoming season, which dominated the last year of the CHL and thus became the first ever Swiss team to achieve this feat. As a result, Switzerland’s highest hockey competition will be the only one with a total of four participants. In addition to Geneva, Zurich, Fribourg-Gottéron and Lausanne will also be involved.
After three participants, they will have founding leagues, which also include extra leagues. The champion Třinec and the two most successful teams from the regular season, i.e. Dynamo Pardubice and Sparta Prague, will be represented here. An interesting fact is that the historically most successful participant in the competition, Frölunda, will not be looking at the new season, which, despite four CHL championship titles, will not take a place among the three Swedish representatives. These will be Skelleftea, Färjestad and Växjö.
In addition to the traditional participants, the Champions Hockey League will also see representatives from the challenger leagues. Denmark’s Sonderjyske, France’s Rouen Dragons, Norway’s Storhamar, Poland’s Oświęcim and Britain’s Sheffield were among the five teams that secured participation in this way.
As in this season, the new edition will take place in one group of 24 participants, with the best 16 advancing to the playoffs. Each team will play six matches against different opponents, with the specific opponents for each team decided by a draw on May 22.
