Cinematographer Helena Hutchins, a lawyer for the family of cinematographer Helena Hutchins, said on Thursday that her Ukrainian parents and sister have filed a civil suit against American actor Alec Baldwin and others about her death in 2021 in New Mexico while filming Rust.

The announcement comes after the Santa Fe district attorney on January 31 indicted Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter, accusing him of reckless safety when a revolver he was carrying fired a live bullet that killed Hutchins and wounded the film’s director, Joel Sousa.

In October, Baldwin settled another wrongful death lawsuit filed by Hutchins’ husband, Matt, over shootings on the film’s set outside Santa Fe.

Hutchins was born in Ukraine, where her parents and sister live near Kyiv. In her suit, attorney Gloria Allred said her family is seeking, under New Mexico law, unspecified compensation from Baldwin, the film’s crew and producers for the loss of Halena.
