The Collège de France opens its doors wide to comics

As part of BD 2020, the prestigious Parisian institution welcomes, from October 7 to December 10, four big names of the 9th art.

“The combination of text and image has existed since cave art and it was time for the Collège de France to take care of it”, says Thomas Römer, administrator of the Collège de France. Before adding: “The comic strip is a very important component in the cultural landscape, and one cannot ignore its high quality works.” As part of BD 2020, this symbolic place welcomes big names from the ninth art.

Benoît Peeters, Catherine Meurisse, Emmanuel Guibert and Jean-Marc Rochette will host four conferences, free and broadcast live, to highlight the richness and liveliness of a medium that no longer needs to be defended. Recommended by Benoît Peeters, both scriptwriter and comic book theorist, who will give the inaugural conference on October 7, these speakers illustrate the creative bubbling that has never ceased to renew itself since Rodolphe Töpffer’s first albums at the beginning of the XIXe century.
