“The latest in the golden age of cancer research.” A revolutionary vaccine described as a miracle

England – A team of scientists has developed a revolutionary skin cancer vaccine, which is now being tested on British patients, and may provide hope for treating this devastating disease.

Scientists said the vaccine may also be effective against lung, bladder and kidney cancers.

The vaccine, known as mRNA-4157 (V940), uses genetic material known as messenger RNA. The mRNA directs some of the body’s cells to make harmless versions of markers seen on cancer cells, stimulating the immune response and helping to identify and fight the disease in the future.

The vaccine encodes approximately 34 tumor markers based on unique mutations in the patient’s cancer, after DNA analysis of a sample removed during surgery.

Dr. Heather Shaw, the researcher coordinating the study, said that the vaccine has the potential to treat people with skin cancer and is being tested against other types of cancer. “This is a highly individual treatment, tailored to each patient.”

The second phase trial of the vaccine, in which the pharmaceutical companies “Moderna” and MSD participated, saw patients with high-risk melanomas receive a dose every 3 weeks, with a maximum of 9 doses.

It turned out that those who took the doses while taking the immunotherapy drug “Keytruda” were less likely to die or have the cancer return within 3 years by almost half (49%) compared to those who took “Keytruda” only.

Now, it is being tested in the third phase of a global study led by University College London Hospitals Foundation, affiliated with the British National Health Service.

Experts praised the vaccine as “the latest promising weapon in the golden age of cancer research,” and it may be a miracle in the treatment of cancer.

Ian Foulkes, executive director of research and innovation at Cancer Research UK, said the global vaccine trial “shows we are in the golden age of cancer research.” However, cancer vaccines are not a silver bullet for defeating the disease. “We need long-term strategies to diagnose more cancers earlier and reduce inequalities in access to care.”
