Caravans, interviews with religious leaders, local visits… in Senegal, the candidates for the legislative elections of July 31 have started the second week of the campaign. Eight lists are in competition. On the side of the presidential coalition – Benno Bokk Yaakaar – it is Aminata Touré who leads the national list. A comeback for the former Prime Minister.

With our correspondent in Dakar, Charlotte Idrac

She has a voice that carries, serious and strong. ” It fits with his strong character “says an observer of political life

Aminata Touré, nicknamed “Mimi Touré” or sometimes the “Iron Lady”, is the only female head of the national list for these elections. Since Macky Sall came to power in 2012, the former international civil servant has been Minister of Justice, then Prime Minister in 2013.

A candidate in Dakar during the 2014 local elections, Aminata Touré was largely beaten by the outgoing mayor, Khalifa Sall, and dismissed from office in the process. She was then appointed to the vague post of “special envoy of the President of the Republic”, a crossing of the desert before taking the head of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) in 2019, until her replacement, by Idrissa Seck , in October 2020.

And here it is again in the foreground for these legislative elections. ” Swing », « worker », « efficient “, According to relatives, Aminata Touré has never been elected. ” It has no political basis “, Tackles an opponent.

On the ground, in the north and east of the country, since the start of the campaign, the head of the list Benno Bokk Yaakaar has defended the results of the head of state and promised a comfortable majority in the Assembly.

Remember that the Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition is participating in these legislative elections without a national list of substitutes since it was rejected by the Constitutional Council for lack of parity.
