All about:
The Festival of Lights 2022 in Lyon

Comic strip workshops with professional designers to introduce children to the creation of boards, drawings of animals or dragons. Learn to design a scenario. There will be many activities at the “Givrés de la BD”. For its second edition, this comic book festival will also offer signing sessions with the 5 guest illustrators: Nicolas Julo, Nelly Chaine, Etienne Friess, Manon Ita and Frédéric Mansour.

Muriel Buffière, director of the Dévoluy tourist office, explains the reason for this unusual festival. “The idea was to create a highlight within the framework of our family plus label. (Editor’s note: national label which promotes municipalities that have taken steps to welcome families). We organize a lot of sporting events but we also wanted to offer our holidaymakers a program focused on culture”.

5 illustrators from neighboring Isère therefore made the trip. Among them, Nicolas Julo. Installed near Chambéry since 2001, the 56-year-old designer is notably for his series “Aventures en Chartreuse”, in collaboration with Mosquito editions. In November 2018, “Menaces en Chartreuse”, the 2nd volume of his adventures, was also voted best youth album at the “Bédé-ciné” festival in Illzach.

“I had already come last year for the first editionexplains the designer. I found it very good so I did not hesitate to come back this year. It’s true that it’s great to be able to meet the children and lead workshops with them. In 1h30, I will try to teach them to create a character, to make him have different attitudes (joy, sadness, astonishment) before making him evolve on 3 or 4 comic strip boxes. Cartoonist, it’s a solitary profession so confronting his readers is really something that I appreciate”.

This year, these three days of festivities will end with a drawing battle between adults and a storytelling evening for children.
