These traditional “construction holidays” will take place this year from Sunday July 23 to Saturday August 5.

The Commission de la construction du Québec has just transmitted 192,522 “holiday allowances” in anticipation of the construction holidays which will begin in less than a month. These total nearly $617 million.

These traditional “construction holidays” will take place this year from Sunday July 23 to Saturday August 5.

It is the employers who pay monthly to the Commission de la construction, the indemnities for statutory holidays and vacations provided for in the collective agreements.

The sums which are now paid to the workers were accumulated between July and December 2022 in the Compulsory Annual Leave and Public Holiday Indemnity Fund, which is administered by the Commission.

The sum of $617 million compares to $553 million the previous year.

The increase is due to sustained activity on construction sites in Quebec. This “exceeded forecasts in 2022, reaching 210.2 million hours” of work, reports the Construction Commission.
