Water is a major concern. Qualitative or quantitative, water crises make the news. Winter droughts in the Pyrénées-Orientales, dramatic floods in Pas-de-Calais and Gard, drinking water crisis in Mayotte, pollution of coastal oysters by the overflow of wastewater networks: they are all the reflection of the same reality.

Among these crises, rainwater management remains the most underground and at the same time one of the most urgent. The increasingly frequent intense precipitation due to climate change is putting a strain on our sanitation systems.

Extraordinary floods and wastewater network overflows which accompany large-scale rain events, with their major consequences on the natural environment, are warning signals that we can no longer ignore. Invisible since the industrial revolution, the question of water has become, in a society faced with climate change, a major issue in our political choices.

Despite our technical and industrial mastery, with each new disaster, we are returned to a form of helplessness which reflects our imperfect adaptation to this new climatic and ecological situation. Combined effect of climatic drift and the impermeability of soils due to the sprawl of our cities, the danger posed by untreated urban rainwater must be taken in hand on a national scale, through a strategy specific.

Optimize flow management

Especially since at a time when France needs to reindustrialize, it can be a lever for a new industrial dynamic. The skills exist and the technologies are available. As with the reuse of wastewater, already proven solutions make it possible to think about effective, modern and sustainable management of rainwater.

Like the projects currently underway in Ile-de-France as part of the swimming planlarge urban projects can be designed and then carried out to optimize flow management, that is to say the storage, transport and treatment of this excess water linked to increasingly frequent exceptional precipitation.

We have know-how and expertise that can place France at the forefront in this area. We must now build political support to give us the means to meet this challenge together.
