2023-07-10 20:43:58

The construction of the new international bridge between the cities of Edmundston in New Brunswick and Madawaska in Maine is proceeding as planned. This project is valued at US$97.5 million.

Maine Department of Transportation communications director Paul Merrill says no delays are scheduled. The bridge is expected to open to traffic at the end of December.

For the next three months, the work will mainly be done on the bridge deck. This is the step that will make this new bridge a reality, according to Paul Merrill.

“This is one of our biggest projects. Rarely does the cost of the work approach or exceed US$100 million. »

Since 2017, a weight limit has been imposed on the current bridge. This causes problems for heavy trucks since they have to take detours.

With the new bridge, this problem will be solved, explains Paul Merrill.

A sidewalk, wider lanes and space for recreational vehicles will be new.
