The controversial beauty contest that awards a Canadian husband as a prize | THE UNIVERSAL

Can you imagine participating in a contest, and as a prize you win a husband? As comical as it sounds, this case is generating controversy and being investigated by the authorities in India.

Several weeks ago a series of posters began to circulate in the city of Punjab informing about a call to participate in this particular contest, which would close on October 23.

The winner of the contest would have the possibility of marrying an Indian man, resident in Canada.

Several outraged people told the police what they intended to do. Upon learning of this case, the authorities described as “offensive” the terms in which they referred to women.

Was it a scam?

The owners of the hotel where the event was supposed to take place, stated that they had no knowledge that this event was going to take place on that date. Therefore, the police concluded that the alleged beauty pageant is a way to defraud interested parties. So far two subjects have been captured.

It is important to mention that in India some families help the young women of their household to find a partner who meets the physical, social, and economic standards required for marriage.
