During the month of April, the Crime Monitoring Organization recorded 75 exhumations of bodies belonging to irregular migrants from the beaches of Sabratha and Garabulli, in addition to the rescue of 90 others who were on boats in the Mediterranean.

The organization said in a report for the month of April that it had monitored the killing of two civilians as a result of armed clashes in Zawiya and the arrest of a number of activists in the east and center of the country by “state agencies,” according to it.

In its report, the organization held the government of national unity responsible for the continuation of what it described as “insecurity and organized crime,” calling on it to take effective measures to protect the lives of civilians.

The organization also called on the judicial authorities in Libya to open an urgent and transparent investigation into the incident of civilian casualties and to hold those responsible accountable, considering the arrests of activists in Sirte and Benghazi a flagrant violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The organization called on the authorities in Libya to immediately and unconditionally release the “arrested activists,” guarantee their safety and rights, and respect freedom of expression and political freedoms.

The organization renewed its call on officials to assume their responsibilities towards rescuing migrants and urged them to cooperate and coordinate with non-governmental organizations to stop this phenomenon by preparing effective mechanisms to search for missing persons and identify unidentified bodies.
