The customers have loved her colorful dresses: Now the shop owner has made a difficult decision

“Live life in colour” is written on the facade. And the dresses in the window match the motto, because there are pops of color and a retro style that stands out compared to everyday gray quilted jackets and cowboy pants. Lots of customers have loved the different clothing store, but after almost 15 years, the owner still has to state that the finances are no longer connected.

In a post on her Facebook page, Betina Dencker, owner of the clothing store DenckerDeluxe, says that the business is closing. She does not hide the fact that they have a heavy and sad feeling in her heart, that she has to tell her customers, suppliers, friends and employees that a date has been set for the closure.

She explains the background to the decision:

“It has been a challenging period in our industry. Recent years have presented a number of challenges, including the impacts of Covid-19, conflicts in Europe, rising energy prices and the important movement towards sustainability and recycling, which has required me personally have had to contribute financially to keep the ship afloat.

Unfortunately, I can no longer justify this to myself, my family or our business. Not being able to maintain a viable business is heartbreaking and it’s not something I can accept.”

Betina Dencker describes the decision to start the end-of-life sale as a bitter pill to swallow.

“But the decision has been made and we will start to close down”, she states and states that the last day of opening is expected to be Saturday 29 June.

DenckerDeluxe has had both a physical store in Nykøbing and a well-visited online store. Betina Dencker mentions that there are 16,000 followers on Facebook, 8,000 recipients of newsletters every week and 50,000 monthly unique visitors.

“Thousands of colorful packages have been sent to happy customers both at home and abroad”, she emphasizes.

Nevertheless, she states that “consumers’ habits have changed significantly and we have tried to adapt, unfortunately without success”.

She does not yet know what the future holds for herself.

Betina Dencker has been on the board of the Morsø Business Council, but chose to step down at the most recent general meeting.
